Music & Fashion Fun

Some of My Favorite Bands by jackie-s-eyeslikeacat featuring skinny leg jeans

I have been creating sets in Polyvore for about a year now.  If you do not know what Polyvore is, it is a site that has various styles of clothing from several online stores, that lets you clip an item and put it together with other items to form a "set."  It allows you to view what an outfit might look like before trying it on.  It also allows you to "alter" the outfit to see what else it could look like.  For me, it is a creative process, giving me a chance to play with shapes and colors.  I also enjoy the fashion aspect of it as well.

Recently I have been entering some contests on Polyvore.  Mainly because they give me ideas.  One contest I entered was not really about fashion, but was suggested that I create a set featuring my favorite bands.  Since I love music so much, I jumped right on that one.  The problem is, I have a ton of favorite bands!  I also wanted to keep within copyright laws as best I know how, so what I did was small thumbnails of some of my favorite artists that also play a clip of their songs when on the Polyvore site.  That way, if someone else also likes one of the bands I listen to, they can click on the thumbnail, which will take them to a site where they can purchase the album or song.

Since Polyvore is mainly a site for fashion, and there were no real song clips for The Beatles, I decided to use a Beatles shirt, and create an outfit from that.  I really like how it turned out.  It also won first place in the Favorite Bands contest I entered, which was kind of cool.  (Set shown above, if you click on "Some of My Favorite Bands" above, it will take you to my Polyvore site and you can listen to the clips if you like).
Polyvore site no longer exists... sorry.

Wild Winter by jackie-s-eyeslikeacat featuring just cavalli

Another set I enjoyed making during a particular cold day in winter, is "Wild Winter."  I selected a bunch of fun items for it - I would not mind owning some of the items myself!  The fish bowls are really cool.  I had fun with them by making them look as if they were swimming among the outfit that I put together.  I also like how the white eye shadow and the white throw gives an illusion of snow.

This last set has been viewed quite a bit.  I had entered another contest called, "Tricky Trend."  There were some rules posted - I believe there were certain items that needed to be used, and was also specified as something that one might wear to work.  I did not place in this contest, but there were a ton of entries for this one.  The fact that it has been viewed many times, and has had quite a few likes, is quite flattering, though.

Leather & Lace by jackie-s-eyeslikeacat featuring floral earrings

So, anyway that is how I have used some of my spare time recently.  I am still trying to get through the audio-book of "The Girl Who Played with Fire."  It is quite a bit more graphic than the last book, and lost my interest for awhile, it was even boring me a tad.  It has picked up a bit now, so I am more into it again.  I still think I might like the last book better, but we shall see.
